Autumn in Oklahoma

He starts out small,
like so many changes,
dabbing tiny brushes of scarlet

and thin touches of tangerine,
barely there, peeking out
from behind the green.

He then with bolder stroke,
etches the redbud in royal robe
and crowns cottonwoods

with a golden glory,
jeweled by birds in a singing
palette from his vast inventory.

He paints the days
with a warm caress, Indian
summer, and we are blessed

with ripe fruition
as art and music, immerse
us in divine composition.
