BANDANA QUEEN

Bandana Queen

That red bandana you wore

to last night's prom

was a ghastly thing.

It distracted

from your full-length formal.

When I heard them call your name,

announcing this year's prom queen,

I could have died.

But you seemed unaffected.

Then, the photographer arrived,

embarrassed beyond cinders.

When you took your teeth out,

I lost sight of the bandana.

I didn't want to know your name.

I forgot my own.

I forgot I drove the car

and walked the whole way home.
