MIRROR-GAZING

Ludlow Press Poetry
The proud mirror is gazing
Soulward at him from head to foot
As if saying: "You and I
Belong to two different worlds."
Then it points an accusing
Finger at him as if hinting:
"Look what you've done to your life."
He stares back at the damned mirror
And warns: "Mind your own business."
Cloudy with rage the antique thing
Raises its huge fists and swings
At his glass jaw, missing it by
An inch. He counterpunches
With full force, shattering his dark
Reflection into countless
Bleeding fragments. On impulse, he
Picks up a sharp, jagged edge,
Aims it at his own jugular vein.
Indeed, mirror-gazing
Can be hazardous to one's health.
